‘first step’ boys project

‘First Step’ Boys Project

In response to recommendations put forth by “I Never Thought it Could Happen to Boys” the very first research project to focus on the exploitation of boys and men in Cambodia released in 2008, Chab Dai is collaborating with various stakeholders to aid Cambodia based organizations develop programs designed to meet the specific needs of boys.

‘First Step' aims to build the capacity of caregivers, staff of NGOs, and other
professionals to support and meet the varying psychosocial needs of boys and young men who have experienced sexual abuse and exploitation. A unique and specialist curriculum was developed in 2009 to help train caregivers and others working with boys, and a specialist team of social workers is currently being formed and trained. The team will also work directly with boys and their families to provide a range of social work and support services. This is the first project of its kind in Cambodia and in the years ahead, plans to support the development of other organizations throughout Cambodia and other South East Asian countries.

Partners on this project include M’lop Tapang, For the Silent, ProMundo, Equitas, and the British Embassy in Phnom Penh.
