Community Prevention Programs
In addition to caring for survivors of abuse, it is crucial for organizations in Cambodia to have a strong focus on prevention and intervention - especially within vulnerable communities, so women and children can be safe and aware of their own human rights. Chab Dai’s prevention programs are designed to create sustainability within Cambodian communities at risk by training community leaders and empowering them to mobilize others.
Church & Community Training Program
The Church & Community Training program focuses on addressing prevention and intervention in rural areas of Cambodia, and partners with local churches and community leaders to promote awareness about issues pertaining to abuse and trafficking. The curriculum for this program has a strong emphasis on encouraging leaders to take personal responsibility for vulnerable members of their own community.
Since the program began in 2006, it has focused on provinces located on Cambodia’s shared borders with Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. These communities are the most vulnerable to cross border migration and trafficking due to their geographic location.
Vietnamese Prevention Program
The Vietnamese Prevention Program began in 2008 following recommendations out of Chab Dai’s research project “At What Price, Honour”. This program aims to empower leaders of ethnic Vietnamese communities to protect children at risk of sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and trafficking. The curriculum focuses on training and educating community leaders about issues relating to trafficking, rape, sexual abuse, and child protection in identified Vietnamese areas of Phnom Penh where girls are at high risk of being abused and exploited.
