Doorsteps

Doorsteps is a small grants project designed to strengthen the ability of small organizations and empower them to increase the quality of care for women and children in their programs. Project donors chose to partner with Chab Dai and pilot the program in Cambodia due to the strength and reputation of the Chab Dai network and Chab Dai’s capacity for training, follow-up and evaluation.

Doorsteps releases small improvement grants to small organizations working against trafficking and abuse in order to help them develop, improve or extend their programs. Because many of the recipients are local organizations with only a few members of staff, they are often overlooked by international donors. However, due to their local nature, these types of organizations usually have the greatest chance of sustainability over the long term.

In addition to small improvement grants, Doorsteps is committed to building the capacity of smaller organizations through Chab Dai’s Project Cycle Management and Governance training program, which is a 10-month, 1-day a month training covering program design, management and evaluation, and organizational capacity and governance. All organizations who receive a grant through Doorsteps are required to attend this training, and are thus empowered not only through additional finance, but also through additional resources and built capacity of their managerial staff.

Doorsteps I provided 23 grants to 17 Christian grassroots organizations, and 31 participants attended the Project Cycle Management training course.

Currently, Doorsteps is currently in its second phase, Doorsteps II, during which more organizations can receive small grants, and previous organizations can undergo a second phase of training.
