A Good Boy and Daughter Toolkits

The “A Good Boy” and “Daughter” animation toolkits, originally written and developed in the Philippines by the Stairway Foundation, tell about the lives of two abused children. “A Good Boy” is the story of a street boy who is sexually abused by a foreign pedophile and “Daughter” tells the story of a girl who is sexually abused by her father. These stories and toolkits are used as awareness raising tools for prevention of abuse, and some aftercare shelters use them as counseling tools as well.

In 2006, Chab Dai translated, developed and printed these toolkits for organizations in Cambodia. The toolkit includes a picture flip chart, the animation feature on DVD, a manual/facilitator’s pack, and victim support cards. These toolkits have been used by several organizations in Cambodia and Thailand who are working with Cambodian children. The victim support help cards associated with this toolkit empower children to ask for help and know there is someone out there to assist and care for them. The cards have encouraged more than 100 phone calls a month from children needing assistance or referrals from cases of trafficking and abuse.

In early 2008, Chab Dai, in collaboration with member organizations working with the ethnic Vietnamese, translated “A Good Boy” and “Daughter” into Vietnamese, and trained several native Vietnamese speakers how to use the toolkits in local Vietnamese communities.

In 2009, the Stairway Foundation released a new animated film about child sex trafficking called Red Leaves Falling. Chab Dai is working to develop a similar training toolkit for this new animation as well.
