Urban Prevention Program
In addition to caring for survivors of abuse, it is crucial for organizations in Cambodia to have a strong focus on prevention and intervention - especially within vulnerable communities, so women and children can be safe and aware of their own human rights. Chab Dai’s prevention programs are designed to create sustainability within Cambodian communities at risk by training community leaders and empowering them to mobilize others.
Similar to our Church & Community Training program, the Urban Prevention Program trains community members how to prevent trafficking, and how to intervene once they’ve recognized that abuse or trafficking is happening within their community. The urban program focuses on urban locations across the country that have been identified as areas where street children are at high risk of sexual abuse from nationals and foreign pedophiles. These urban areas include parts of Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Siem Reap.
The focus of this program is to bring a greater understanding of trafficking and abuse to commune chiefs, church pastors, Buddhist monks, school teachers, NGO workers, and government officials. Since the program began in 2007, our prevention team has trained more than 160 community leaders through this program, who then reached out to more than 2,800 individuals within their own communities.
